About Us
Established in 2012, The Dance Art School is committed to proving a warm, inclusive and supportive environment that prioritises wellbeing and motivates students to reach their full potential both as dancers and as individuals. Ballet classes follow the classical training of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus, a world leader in dance education and training. Our Spanish classes follow the training of the Spanish Dance Society (SDS) the world's largest society for the advancement of Spanish dance.
We understand that every dancer is unique and requires individual attention and training to reach their full potential as a dancer, therefore, we strive to create opportunities for students to grow beyond just syllabus work. Our open class introduces dancers to the world of contemporary, jazz, modern dance and stretch training. We also encourage performance and stage experience through our much anticipated bi-annual studio production, participation in dance festivals and additional performance training through the The American Performance Awards (AAB) to motivate and reward students of all ages and abilities.
Our Classes
All our classes are taught by experienced, dedicated instructors who are committed to nurturing the art of dance by building a solid foundation of classical training while cultivating a lifelong love of dance.

Elizabeth van Schalkwyk
FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL
Liz is the owner and Principal teacher at The Dance Art School since 2012. She is gentle, kind and authentic in her personal approach to teaching dance. Her training in Ballet, Modern and Spanish dancing from a young age, was the foundation for Liz to be accepted for dance at The National School of the Arts - Johannesburg. Receiving training from many inspiring teachers taught Liz various teaching methods, perseverance, adapting and compassion which has helped Liz build The Dance Art School ideology. It is very important that our school is like a dance family, supporting the dancers and parents through their dance journey. Liz has inspired many young girls and boys not only to become professional dancers, but to apply all the incredible benefits of their dance training in their day to day lives and careers. Her greatest desire is to help each individual dancer in progressing to achieve their personal best in dance and in life.
As the daughter of a ballet teacher Jenni Ferris's journey in dance started from a very young age. She has progressed from student to teacher over the past 30 years, where she feels privileged to combine her love of children and dance in her teaching methods. Jenni also is a qualified Pilates Instructor and her experience with this has allowed her to add a beneficial layer to her teaching of dancers, as well as some of their parents. Jenni's personal aims of bringing a holistic, fun approach to teaching the beautiful, technical and disciplined art of Ballet, to the dancers; falls perfectly in line with Liz' and the studio aims - making The Dance Art School the best choice for your future dancer.
